Knowledge summary of prepress homework typesetting tutorial

coreldraw is a powerful comprehensive software package, which has many functions, such as graphic drawing, image processing, page making, printing typesetting, cartoon animation and so on

coreldraw is widely used in the preliminary work of printing and typesetting of publications in China, commonly known as prepress operation. Although this is only a part of CorelDRAW's function, we will habitually call other software when dealing with other work, such as Photoshop for image processing, Dreamweaver for page making, flash for animation processing, etc; So here, I will take a small card as an example to briefly introduce from the layout of graphics to the drawing of knife mold diagram

composition work:

before printing and typesetting, we should first analyze the working objects, such as what paper to use, what printing machine to prepare, what process to use, whether to carry out artistic processing or what special process, etc. In order to save space, I will omit these

1. Open CorelDRAW software, and the system will automatically create a graphic 1 file

2. Select the fifth rectangle tool from the toolbox on the left, and draw a rectangle with unlimited size in the blank space next to the paper specified by the system. Then change its size to 125 x 185mm on the attribute toolbar (the finished product size will be 120 x 175mm after folding in half)

3. Use the selection tool to select the rectangle just drawn, press and hold the CTRL key, and drag the rectangle to the left with the mouse. When a rectangle box that is the same as the original rectangle appears on the screen, hold the left key and press the right key, that is, another rectangle that is the same as the original rectangle appears on the left

4. Put a processed picture in the box on the right, and add the company information text in the lower part of the box on the left. Form a card pattern

5. Select all objects on the card and press ctrl+g or arrange group items under the menu. Group each object to make it an object. To facilitate the operation of subsequent projects

6. Select the selection tool, draw a rectangle in a blank place, and adjust the size to 546 x 787mm (positive split paper size, which represents the paper)

7. Draw another rectangle in the box of folio paper, with the size of 526 x 777mm (5mm bleeding position is left on the upper and lower sides, 15mm bite position is left on the left, and 5mm bleeding position is left on the right, which indicates that this is the effective printing area of the printing plate core). Select both rectangles, select alignment and distribution in the arrangement menu, and check the horizontal item on the right and the vertical item in the pop-up dialog box to align the positions of the two rectangles

8. After the previous step, the right sides of the two rectangles are close together, but we require a distance of 5mm, so it needs to be adjusted. If it is adjusted manually, its position is not accurate enough. Select the selection tool. When no object is selected, adjust the fine-tuning distance on the attribute toolbar to 5mm, then select the 526 x 777mm rectangular box, and click the left arrow. This rectangular box is separated by 5mm from the other rectangular box, so that there is also a 5mm bleeding position on the right side of the paper

9. Because the finished size of the card is 120 x 175mm after folding in half, plus the bleeding position, the unfolded full size of the design draft is 250 x 185mm. Now we are going to put the cards on paper. Select the cards that have been grouped, then select the inner box on the paper, select the alignment and distribution in the arrangement menu, check the horizontal item on the left, and check the vertical item on the top to align the card with the upper left corner of the inner box; Select the card, copy and paste it, and then adjust the rotation value to 180 in the attribute bar to turn it over so that the pattern parts of the two cards are opposite; Adjust the fine-tuning distance to 250mm, select the card pasted, click the right arrow, and the two cards will become a pattern to pattern arrangement. This method is called head to head patchwork

due to the relationship between temperature and humidity, the paper will often stretch and deform during printing. In order to minimize the inaccurate overprint caused by this reason, we should try to put the parts with complex patterns or colors close to the bite position. After the first line above is lined up, then call the deformation option in the arrangement menu. In the pop-up dialog box, set the vertical distance to the card height value of 185mm. Because we want to shift it downward, we need to set it to -185mm. Then select two cards and press apply to the reproduction object. Each press will copy a pair of cards downward, and the position is also very accurate. After three consecutive clicks, four pairs of eight cards appeared on the page, and the paper could no longer be arranged

at this point, the composition is complete. The specification is octave/positive split paper. Although there are some wasted papers, this situation is inevitable. If we want to reduce the waste of paper, we can budget with pen and paper before making up. For example, in this example, the printing surface size of the card after octave is 500 x 740mm, while the opposite size of positive paper is 546 x 787mm, the opposite size of large paper is 597 x 889mm, and the opposite size of special paper is 444 x 634mm, Obviously, the waste of using other paper seems to be greater, so it is appropriate to use positive paper

drawing of knife pattern

the completion of the composition does not mean the end of the typesetting work. We also have another very important work, the drawing of knife pattern

after the completion of the printing process, each printed matter must be divided into finished products. For example, in the above example, after the completion of printing, it must be divided into eight finished cards. It's impossible to cut with scissors when dividing. We need to go out with another template. Of course, in general printing plants, you don't need to make a knife mold by yourself. You just need to draw the knife mold line, and then send it to the knife mold factory. The knife mold factory will make the knife plate, and then take it back to the beer machine to press it, and then remove the paper edge and stack it neatly, and you can deliver it to the customer

the drawing of the knife mold line is completed on the basis of the printing plate. In fact, it is to draw the line of the actual size of the finished product on a page containing bleeding position (without filling in the color). Now let's start the drawing of the knife mold line:

1. The size of the finished card set above is 120 x 175mm after folding in half, and 250 x 185mm after expanding (including bleeding)

2. Draw a rectangle with the rectangle tool, with the size of 239 x 175mm. Select the rectangle, then select the card in the upper left corner of the printing plate, press the C key to align vertically, press the e key to align horizontally, and the rectangle is in the center of the card. Adjust the fine-tuning distance value to 0.5mm, select the rectangle just drawn, and click the right arrow to move it to the right by 0.5mm (because the rectangle has been reduced, if it does not move to the right by 0.5mm, there will be bleeding of 5.5mm on both sides, but our goal is to have bleeding of 5mm on the right and 6mm on the left). Select the Bezier curve tool, draw a line with a vertical height of 175mm, align it vertically in the middle to the right of the rectangle, adjust the fine-tuning value to 120mm, select the vertical line, click the left arrow, and the vertical line will divide the rectangle into 120mm on the right and 119mm on the left,. Here, the front side is marked as 120mm, and the back side is set as 119mm, because I'm afraid that the back side will exceed the front side due to inaccurate overprinting after beer pressing on the beer machine. After reducing mm, I won't worry that the finished product will have exposed back (that is, the paper on the back can be seen from the front of the card surface) defects

3. Select the rectangle (the border is set as a solid line, indicating that it needs to be cut) and the vertical line (the border is set as a dotted line, indicating that only indentation but not cutting) and group them into an object, call the deformation dialog box in the arrangement, set the vertical value as -185mm and the horizontal value as 0 in the position item, and then click apply to the reproduced object three times, and the card die line on the left is basically completed; Select four newly created rectangles, set the horizontal value 249mm and the vertical item to 0 in the deformation dialog box, and then click apply to the remanufactured object, that is, copy the other four tool die lines; Remove the eight card patterns and the positioning rectangular boxes of the bite and bleeding positions previously set, resulting in only eight rectangular boxes left on the paper

at this point, the printing plate and knife template are finished, making the operation more intuitive and simple; With the lengthened stretching space, the follow-up work is to produce films. Normally, four color films of cyan, magenta, yellow and black are printed, plus a knife mold film. If you want to print other processes, you can produce additional films as needed. Because both film production and plate making belong to the work of the plate room, the prepress operation is over. (the bleeding set here is 5mm at the top and bottom, which adds up to a total of 10mm bleeding. This is because the printing of large sheets of paper should take into account that the paper may stretch and deform due to temperature and humidity, resulting in inaccurate positioning of overprinting or cutting. 3mm bleeding is only when there is no way, and it is generally better to use 5mm. Generally, we usually use 3mm bleeding for design, but if the paper is thick or packaging, I will build it It is recommended to use 5mm bleeding, but it is best to do a good job of bleeding cutting line by yourself, because the output company is used to adding 3mm cutting line for you. This make-up is to try not to waste paper. We will provide such films to others for printing on regular folio paper. If we don't make-up, we will output several copies of films and let the printing factory make-up.)

about the order of the page of the mosaic

first, let's introduce some commonly used layouts: the size is 16 open (210 ╻ 285mm) as an example, and the size after the mosaic is 4 open. Due to limited time, the corner line and cutting line are not indicated here, and only the page method of making up is provided
